Grand Canyon

We drove into Grand Canyon National Park on 15 July 2007. It was a beautiful evening and during sunset we were treated to a lightning storm...

During our first full day we spent the morning taking a class put on by canon called "Canon Photography in the Parks Photo Workshop". You can read more about it here. We got to use high end canon cameras and also learned from professional photographers. Here is one of the pictures Megan took at the workshop...

On Tuesday 17 July we decided to hike down below the rim of the canyon. This was strongly discouraged by every ranger we talked to as the temperature at the base can be 20 degrees higher than the rim, the forecast was 113 for the canyon floor. We decided to just go down a little ways on the Tanner Trail and turn around after a few hours. The total length of the trail is over 9 miles each way and did less than half in 6 hours time.

Our hike took us down the ravine in that is a little left of the middle of this picture...

It was pretty steep...

We really enjoyed our time in the Grand Canyon and got to see some beautiful sunsets...

Wow! Your pictures are really neat. It reminds me of my trip to Utah in May. It was much cooler then I'm sure. I hope you're enjoying your trip across the country!

I really do love your pictures. I was just wondering what date you guys finally leave for Micronesia?

Thursday at noon we fly out of Portland. We won't arrive in Pohnpei until Saturday afternoon, I think that makes it some time in the very early morning on Saturday local time.

Thanks for commenting!

Pics are absolutely stunning. Terrain looks awfully rugged to me. You both seem to have enjoyed trip. Love the scenery from tent in AM.
