California

Megan and I spent 19 Jul-22 Jul in Southern California. We stayed with my brother in San Diego for a few days. While in San Diego we went mountain biking, to a water park and to the San Diego Wild animal park. As you can see we all had a wonderful time...

We found this at the wild animal park and decided to take it home...

On Sunday we attended church in San Diego and then went and stayed with some friends at Vandenberg AFB (Sorry no pics).

Next stop Oregon.

Grand Canyon

We drove into Grand Canyon National Park on 15 July 2007. It was a beautiful evening and during sunset we were treated to a lightning storm...

During our first full day we spent the morning taking a class put on by canon called "Canon Photography in the Parks Photo Workshop". You can read more about it here. We got to use high end canon cameras and also learned from professional photographers. Here is one of the pictures Megan took at the workshop...

On Tuesday 17 July we decided to hike down below the rim of the canyon. This was strongly discouraged by every ranger we talked to as the temperature at the base can be 20 degrees higher than the rim, the forecast was 113 for the canyon floor. We decided to just go down a little ways on the Tanner Trail and turn around after a few hours. The total length of the trail is over 9 miles each way and did less than half in 6 hours time.

Our hike took us down the ravine in that is a little left of the middle of this picture...

It was pretty steep...

We really enjoyed our time in the Grand Canyon and got to see some beautiful sunsets...

Woah...there's a lot to post

Megan and I REALLY enjoyed Fruita, CO. After Fruita we went straight to Moab, UT. We rode the classic Rim Trail and escaped the sun and heat in the campground pool. To escape the heat in the afternoon/evening we went to see the sweetest movie of 2007..."Transformers" It really was more than meets the eye.

On Saturday 14 July we drove through Arches National Park. If you would like to visit this beautiful place do yourself a favor and don't do it in the middle of July. Beautiful but hot.

Next stop was Bridges National Monument. This was an unplanned stop as we just wanted a campsite and found this amazing place. It had Native American ruins,...

...bridges,...

and also was a International Darksky so during the clear moonless evening we saw more stars then we had ever seen before.

Next stop Grand Canyon...

Eight States, One Day

Two days ago, we hit 8 states: Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri.

St. Louis

We started yesterday with a blown-out tire, just before Kansas City. I drove over a hunk of metal. We were lucky; the people behind us shredded two tires. We think they closed the highway for a minute to retrieve the tire-slasher. We got a new tire at Walmart, thanks to Bob & Nate for directions.

This morning, we woke up in Colorado to this.

More on Leg 1

Dad's recovering quickly... no more crutches now!

Kate & Andrew's marshmallow smores creation at our 4th of July bbq. Yum???

Road Trip 2007, Leg 1: PA and DC

Megan and I are in sweet Fruita, CO. We will be doing some mountain biking later today and decided to wait out the heat in a coffee shop.

We started our road trip at Megan's parents house in Bethlehem, PA.

We had a BBQ...

Visited Megan's sister, Kate, and met her horse CT. Here she is doing some sweet jumps...

Then we drove to Central PA (aka Pennsyltucky). Megan slept...

We had a fun day visiting Megan's college friends Corynn and Tami (sorry no pics). Then continued to State College, PA to visit my sister, Cyndi, and niece, Jordan. Here we are on a bike ride...

We then drove to the DC area to visit Megan's bro, Dan, and our friends, Doug and Erin and Megan slept...

We got to see Dan's new pad (sweet pad Dan) and visited the Smithsonian. Where Dan got a much need bear hug...

We finished the leg with dinner in old town Alexandria with Doug, Erin and Dan at a Thai restaurant. Turns out that Thai food is pretty spicy. "More water please!" -Megan
